Changemakers: A DEI Youth Leadership Initiative

Do you know a high school student passionate about social justice? Nominate them for a 100% FREE weeklong leadership summer camp!
Garden State Equality is seeking high school age youth, entering 10th through 12th grade in September 2024, who are ready to transform the world by empowering others to be upstanders in their communities and bring groundbreaking initiatives to their schools. If you know some changemakers in your own school or organization, we are ready for you to nominate them for Garden State Equality’s youth leadership program taking place this August 2024!
This year, we will have two camp sessions, allowing for us to welcome up to 60 youth to join us. Our camp program will take place at Fairview Lake YMCA, located in Newton, NJ from August 18th through August 23rd, and August 25th through August 30th. While at camp, participants will engage in DEI centered workshops, discussion groups that will challenge their biases, and interactive camp activities that will activate their minds, and enable their senses to make a difference in the world.
Once the camp session is complete, Garden State Equality will work and keep in contact with the participants to aid and guide them in the process of instating their action plans. This opportunity will allow for not only the Garden State Equality Leaders to support the ins and outs of implementation, but it will also serve as a community building space for the full group of campers.
Changemakers Youth Leadership Initiative is open to high school-age individuals across the state of New Jersey. All transportation, lodging, food, and programming costs will be covered for participants attending the camp program.
All nominators should work with the students that they are nominating to fill out the form with all applicable information needed. If you have any questions, please reach out to Justine Evyn Saliski, Director of Education and Youth Development, at [email protected].
Please note that applications will be open through July 1st. All individuals will receive confirmation of receipt of application, and notice of acceptance status by mid July.
