Privilege & Culture: The Challenges for White Clinicians

It is a clinician's duty to recognize privilege and be aware of cultural differences and systems of racial oppression in order to have essential conversations with coworkers and clients. This course will provide a culturally competent understanding of the language, awareness and skills needed to have such interactions. Thought-provoking discussion and activities, offer mental health professionals the opportunity to build a culturally relevant toolbox of skills to work toward micro and macro level change.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define key terms such as privilege, unconscious bias, microaggressions, racism, equity, color blindness and intersectionality
  • Discuss ways in which privilege impacts relationships with coworkers and clients
  • Describe contents of a culturally relevant toolbox and skill set required to affect change in practice
