Women and Opioid Use Disorders

The opioid epidemic has impacted the lives of many. Women, however, encounter many obstacles in treatment. This course provides an overview of DSM criteria for Opioid Use Disorders from a trauma informed perspective. Participants will explore the unique needs of women and pregnant women seeking treatment. A discussion of P/ACEs serves to highlight treatment implications. Course concludes with interventions that address barriers to treatment and relapse prevention to support women in the recovery process.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the connection between trauma and OUDs.
  • Summarize treatment strategies to engage pregnant women in treatment.
  • Discuss diversion and implications for relapse prevention.
